What is Oyakeakahachi Forest?
A forest on the way from Kohama Port to Hosozaki Beach at the tip in the direction of Iriomote Island.
It is said to be a remnant of the time when "Oyakeakahachi" from Hateruma Island, who stood up to the Ryukyu Kingdom in the late 15th century and was finally defeated on Ishigaki Island, gathered supporters on Kohama Island in the process of recruiting his rebel army.
It is more like a "forest" than a "forest" in size, but why don't you visit it and think about the history of Yaeyama's independence in ancient times?
How to play in Oyakeakahachi Forest
When heading to Hosozaki Coast, it is recommended to take the outward route through the village in the direction of Kohagura-so and Sugar Road, and the return route through the Oyakeakahachi forest.
While the outward route has many ups and downs, the return route in the Oyakeakahachi Forest is mostly downhill, making it relatively easy to follow.
Be careful not to go too close to the grassy areas in the Oyakea Bee Forest because of the frequent presence of bees.
