Phantom Island (official name: Hamashima) is a small sandy island in an emerald green sea.The shallow ocean is spectacular, and the white sandy beaches make for a beautiful 360-degree view no matter where you take your picture!

Diving on Kohama Island

Diving is an easy way to experience weightlessness! For those who are new to this experience, we will provide a training course, so please feel free to join us.

The location for experience diving and snorkeling is a special area called "Seokseo Jagoho," which is the only place in Japan where diving and snorkeling take place.

It is also included in the marine area of Iriomote Ishigaki National Park, so it is an area with a rich ecosystem as well as spectacular views.

We are currently offering one-day tours in the morning and afternoon, so we will be open from 8:40 to 11:40 a.m. and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at the port of Kohama Island.

Okinawa Prefectural Public Safety Commission (Okinawa Prefectural Police)as prescribed byStrict safety standardsThese are marine leisure operators that have met the requirements and received official “certification of safety and security” (official name: “Providers of Leisure Activities in Marine Areas with Excellent Safety Measures”).

In fact, of the many marine tourism operators in Okinawa Prefecture, only about 3 percent (roughly 3 out of 100 companies) have obtained “Maru-Yu” certification.

To receive “Maru-Yu” certification,Passed rigorous screening and on-site inspections by local policeIt is necessary to do so, and the following stringent safety management system is mandatory.

Q. Is there a place to change on the day?

The ship's restrooms are used in conjunction with the changing rooms, so you can change your clothes.

Ship facilities include simple showers (water), toilets, and changing rooms (also used as restrooms) so that you can change and disembark when you disembark.

Q. What is the difference between the two?How do I get to Obama Port?

Kohama Port can be reached in about 30 minutes by ferry departing from Ishigaki Port Remote Islands Terminal.

After disembarking from the ferry, this is in front of the quay, which has moved to the right (north side) when looking at the Obama Port Terminal.

Our snorkel point is very close to where we stopped the boat, so you can see fish and coral without having to leave the boat.

We will also teach you how to properly put on the three-piece set (mask, snorkel, and fins), and the key points to remember when snorkeling, all within feet of each other, so please come and join us.Even those who are not good swimmers can enjoy snorkeling because life jackets ensure safe buoyancy.

Q. What is the difference between the two?Do I have to wear a life jacket?

For safety reasons, all guests are required to wear life jackets (life preservers) or wetsuits.
Even those who can swim may suddenly have a seizure, and we believe it is necessary to ensure their safety.

We also provide life jackets for infants, so you can enjoy playing in the ocean with your small children without anxiety. With life jackets to ensure buoyancy, enjoy snorkeling safely and securely.

Q. What is the difference between the two?Are there toilets on the ship?

Each boat is equipped with a toilet. The toilet is used differently than usual, using seawater for flushing and all dumping is done underwater, so toilet paper should be thrown in the trash. (Detailed instructions on how to use these toilets will be provided at the time of your tour.)

Q. What is the difference between the two?I have poor eyesight. Do you have rental masks with glasses?

We also rent masks (one size only) with prescription (limited to those with less than 0.1 vision).

Snorkeling with a mask while wearing contact lenses is also possible. *We are not responsible for lost contact lenses.

Q. What is the difference between the two?Do you have rental items for children?

Masks, fins (21 cm or taller), life jackets (from about 100 cm in height), and wetsuits for children are also available for rent.
Floating boats are also available for infants only. (Please consult with us in the remarks column of the reservation form.)

Wetsuits are available for a fee (@2,000 yen) from June 1 to October 31.

We participated in this tour as part of a family vacation. Since it was our child’s first time snorkeling, I was a little worried, but the staff taught our child gently and patiently, and he quickly got the hang of it and started having fun. He was thrilled to see so many beautiful fish. The photo session on the “Mysterious Island” also made for a wonderful memory, and as a parent, I was completely satisfied with the experience. The water was incredibly clear, and we could see the coral and tropical fish beautifully. The diving instruction was easy to follow, so I think it’s a great option even for beginners. The only downside was that the changing area felt a bit cramped. Still, considering that we got to set foot on the “Mythical Island” and that the tour was packed with so many activities, I felt it was a great value for the price.

I signed up for this trip because I wanted to enjoy the ocean to the fullest on my own for the first time in a while. I was a little nervous at first, but the staff were so friendly and approachable that I was able to relax right away. The underwater scenery was indescribably beautiful, and I lost track of time while diving. Landing on the “phantom island” felt like a real escape from everyday life, and it was a truly wonderful experience. I definitely want to come back again.

Overall, everything went very smoothly. I thoroughly enjoyed both the diving and snorkeling, and landing on the “Mythical Island” was a highlight. However, the boat did rock a bit, so if you’re prone to seasickness, you might want to take precautions beforehand. Other than that, I’m generally satisfied.

My husband and I took part in this tour. The pre-tour briefing was very thorough, and we could tell that safety was a top priority throughout the dive, so we felt completely at ease putting ourselves in their hands. We started out from the harbor with a pleasant breeze, and before we knew it, we’d arrived at our destination while enjoying the scenery. Next, we got used to the ocean by snorkeling, and then it was finally time for our introductory dive.
