What is Kohama Island like?
Kohama Island offers a taste of the slow life that blends nature and resorts.
Kohama Island can be reached by ferry from Ishigaki Island in about 25 minutes, and is geographically the center of the Yaeyama Islands. The island is known as a resort in the south sea as well as a place where you can enjoy the original landscape of Okinawa such as sugar cane fields and red-tiled roofs.
Along the way, you can see goats grazing and peacocks strolling. This is an island that should be visited at least once, and is the perfect place to soothe the soul.
How to get to Kohama Island
How to get to Ishigaki Island from the mainland
Since there is no airport on Kohama Island, we will go through the airport in Ishigaki. Several airplanes operate from the mainland to Ishigaki Island.
It takes 3.5 hours from Haneda and Narita, and about 3 hours from Osaka (Kansai). There is also a route via Naha, making it easy to reach from anywhere.
As for the fare, since LCCs operate flights, the one-way fare is less than 10,000 yen during inexpensive times of the year. From Haneda, one-way trip generally costs 20,000 to 30,000 yen. The summer season is recommended, but if you want to go to Kohama Island inexpensively, the fall and winter months are also recommended.
How to get to the remote island terminal from Ishigaki Airport
After arriving at Ishigaki Airport, there are three ways to get around: "bus," "cab," and "rental car.
If you are going directly, go directly to the remote island terminal (high-speed boat terminal) in the city center.
How to get there by bus
After exiting the main entrance of the airport, buses stop on the left side. The time required (about 10 minutes) varies slightly depending on the company, but all buses go to the remote island terminal. Buses leave about every 15 minutes, and you can take any of them.

Fee: 500-540 yen
Reservations: Not required
How to get there by cab
A cab will be waiting right outside the main entrance, so just say "Rito Terminal" and you will be fine. If you have a family of 3 or 4 people, we recommend taking a cab. You can ask the driver about recommended spots, so it is a good idea to gather information.

How to get there by rental car
In Ishigaki Island, there are many car rental agencies clustered around the airport and the remote island terminal. If you inform the airport of your flight time in advance, the rental car agency will come to the airport according to your arrival time.
Also, during off-season, you can call on the spot after arriving at the airport, but during peak season, it is recommended to make reservations a month or at least a week in advance. There is a parking lot in the remote island terminal, so if you are going to Kohama Island for a day trip, overnight stay, etc., you can leave your car in the parking lot (for a fee).

From the remote island terminal to Kohama Island
There is a boat from the Remote Island Terminal to Kohama Island every hour. The remote island terminal is about a 5-minute walk from the city center, and 15 minutes in advance is enough time to catch the ferry, so it is recommended to check the ferry time in advance and be there on time.
